To travel is to live. It was once only a dream of mine to travel overseas—and this is it! Joy and excitement wrapped me up like a scarf just by the thought of seeing new places, meeting new faces, witnessing different art, and of course devouring Singaporean cuisine.
First stop, Singapore Zoo—what a place to visit! The staff, the
attractions, the place itself is a crowning triumph. Even upon entry in the ticket-purchasing
booths, it is unquestionably noticeable how the zoo is kept clean and
well-maintained.
The zoo presents heaps of fun and exciting activities and entertainment
that is a load over and above your admission fee’s worth. I recommend that you
arrive early to maximize the time. For animal sight-seeing, it’s almost
impossible to see them all and not to miss any. I guarantee there is no
disappointment with the number of species the zoo houses—more than 300 to be
exact. Most of which I could not even distinguish the kind or even know its
existence.
Growing up, I’ve been highly fearful of animals, deepest thanks to this trip for helping me out on that. I literally fed my animal instincts though I was cowed stiff of losing a finger to a giraffe (which turns out to be uninterested of my human flesh). The diversity of fauna at the “world’s best rainforest zoo” as dubbed many sources (I couldn’t agree with that more) had us intensely enliven all throughout.
In all due honesty, it
is the very first time I’ve seen most if not all, of these animals live and
up-close because there are not much of them in the Philippines or anywhere else
in the world. (Kudos to the wildlife protection authority in Singapore for a
job well done)
I have got to say, I am still left in awe of how talented this seagull is. Hats-off to his trainer! This, along with many other animal shows, are definitely a thing to look forward to on your Singapore Zoo visit.
What’s even more impressive, the typical animal-caged setting type of
zoo is way out of the picture. The creature’s dwellings are niche-themed massive
stretches surrounded by both wet and dry channels stowed in plants, trees, and the
like, and safely enclosed by glass walls.
Fun comes with feathers and
in their show-stopping antics—a few kilometers
away from the zoo is, well, another zoo, but specifically home to birds only.
It won’t be very enticing unless I tell your there are 5,000 of different kinds
making it one of the largest sanctuaries in the world, and the only one in Asia!
I had such an amazing time with my new-found friends! I definitely recommend Singapore Zoo and Jurong Bird Park to anyone heading to Singapore! Drop by their website at www.zoo.com.sg and www.birdpark.com.sg respectively. My heartfelt gratitude to SilkAir Singapore for fixing our trip!
